Icons when Reading Posts

Post by admin » Wed Feb 22, 2017 8:25 pm

When you are viewing posts you may see some icons up at the top next to the poster's name, usually on the same line as the title of the post. These are on every single post in the discussion thread.

The Pen means you can edit the post. This will only be something that admins/teachers see, but you will see if it is a post you created.

The X means you can delete the post. Again, admins and teachers have this ability for all posts, but you have it only for your posts. When you delete a post, however, it doesn't go completely away. An admin or teacher has to fully delete it, so there may be a shadow on the board for a bit. When you delete something you will get a little screen pop up that will ask you if you want to fully delete it (if you are a teacher or admin) and there will be a text box that you need to type in why it needs to be deleted. Then when an admin is going through notifications they will see it and will completely remove it or, reinstate it, depending on the reason why you deleted it..... most likely we will delete it fully for you.

The Exclamation Point This is the report it button. If you see something that looks like it doesn't belong, that it is against school rules or school policy, that is being hateful or harmful in anyway, you can click that button. There will be a text box that you need to fill out to report it. The subject line should be the main reason you are raising concern. You can click the toggle to be made aware if and when the situation is dealt with. Then there is a large box for you to post your concerns and why you feel that there is something that needs dealt with. The teachers and admins will be made aware of the situation.

The Triangle This "warns" user.... the user being the poster. This should only be used by admins/teachers/moderators. What this does is, if there is a post that is in violation of the rules you can click on that triangle and it opens a new screen. In here it will put a copy of the questionable post, it will give you the poster's name and it will give you a box with a notice where it will start out that the poster is being warned about this specific post, after that you can put what the issue is and why they are being warned. This will also record all warnings that user has. If a person has multiple warnings, then I need to be notified, it is in essence being "On Watch" in the Student Lounge/Resource Library.

The i This is for Admins/Teachers/Moderators. In here you will get information about the post. Admins can change the poster, so for instance when the students moved the RL, if you find a post that is yours you can contact me with the post information and I can change the author of the post to you. Moderators can also lock the post so no one can reply to it, admins can check user IPs and see if there are any other user IPs with the same IP address, not that it matters as we have families and friends who use the same IP address for things.

The Quote Marks This will open up the reply screen with the original post in the screen and the quote code around it. You can delete parts of the post so only the part you want to quote is quoted.

Now, directly under the title of the post you may see a few icons as well. These same icons are at the very bottom of the screen under the very last post of the discussion.

Post Reply of course simply pulls up the reply screen so you can type in your reply to the thread.

The Wrench pulls up a drop box of things you can do:

Subscribe to the topic will send you notifications any time someone replies to the topic.

Bookmark Topic will save the link to that topic in your bookmarks that you can get to through the profile panel

Email Topic you can set it up to email the topic someplace.

Print View will pull up a new screen that you can print out for a hard copy of the item.
